Senior Communications Specialist | June 2021 - August 2024

Communications Operations:

  • Produce daily media coverage report for Executive Leadership Team and Managing Directors

  • Monitor and analyze news and events relevant to Open Society’s interests, including reputational issues, emerging stories, and staff engagements

  • Research, assemble, and maintain journalist databases; point-of-contact for vendor, Muck Rack

  • Copyedit blog posts, publications, and other content published on our public website, intranet, and newswires, ensuring editorial compliance and adherence to brand guidelines

  • Edit and publish press releases on newswires and manage relationship with vendor, Meltwater

  • Created and maintain an issues management directory for tracking statements, responses, public positioning, internal analysis, and media coverage across relevant topics 

  • Manage the calendar of global events, conferences, and elections for Comms and Advocacy

  • Track media coverage, handle scheduling, and provide research for the Advocacy department’s Defending Tunisian Democracy campaign

Internal Communications: 

  • As administrator and editor of the intranet, create content and manage over 1,000 pages for more than 800 employees across all departments and regions

  • Provide quality assurance and control, user experience enhancements, technical support, testing, content accuracy, and other platform maintenance

  • Collaborated with digital and design teams to support the six-month process of migrating to an upgraded intranet platform; trained 50 power users on new features and functionalities

  • Continuously ideating and implementing strategies to improve staff engagement and utility

Communications Specialist, Monitoring | October 2020 - May 2021

  • Produced the weekly Press Highlights newsletter, which disseminated Open Society media coverage to all internal stakeholders and staff

  • Monitored international media outlets and created and maintained journalist databases

  • Conducted research, wrote media reports, and provided operational support for comms officers

  • Proofread and published content for the Open Society Justice Initiative website

  • Submitted and tracked contracts, invoices, and payments for vendors and consultants

Social Media Strategist | January - September 2020

  • Developed and implemented a Twitter-centric social media strategy for the International Migration Initiative, increasing the program director’s following 250% and engagement rate 300%, leading directly to press interviews and op-ed placements, and growing awareness of the initiative’s work on behalf of refugees, forced migrants and undocumented workers around the world

  • Created content and handled community management for the Sex Workers’ Pop-Up, an art exhibit supporting sex workers’ rights mid-March in NYC; attracted more than 3,000 followers and 17,400 story views on Instagram, 1,400 followers on Twitter and 12,500 total reach on Facebook (all organic), along with 2,500 visitors over three days open to the public (cut short due to Covid)

  • Conducted research and provided support for the communications team as the organization urgently shifted priorities to pandemic rapid response and equal justice initiatives

  • Produced social media strategy and toolkits for grantee and partner campaigns
